Importing from Singapore to Australia: FAQ
How is import duty calculated for goods shipped from Singapore to Australia?
Duty is the tariff rate for the product's HS code multiplied by the dutiable value. Australia assesses duty on the customs value, which is the transaction value of the goods. International transport and insurance are not dutiable but are added to the base for import GST. Import GST is then charged at 10% on customs value + duty + international transport + insurance. Enter your HS code or a product description above to get the exact rate for your goods.
What is the import GST rate in Australia?
The standard rate used by the calculator is 10% (GST), charged on customs value + duty + international transport + insurance.
Is there a de minimis threshold for imports into Australia?
Goods with a customs value up to AUD 1,000 pay no duty and no GST at the border. A GST-registered seller or electronic distribution platform collects GST at the point of sale instead. Above AUD 1,000 duty and GST are charged at import.
Is shipping cost included in the dutiable value in Australia?
Not for duty. Australia charges duty on the transaction value of the goods, but international transport and insurance are added to the base for import GST.
Are there customs fees on top of duty in Australia?
The calculator applies no ad valorem entry fees or statutory surcharges for Australia. Broker, carrier and storage charges are not included.
What currency are duties paid in for Australia?
Duties and import taxes in Australia are assessed in AUD. The calculator above accepts an invoice in USD or AUD and reports the result in the invoice currency you choose.
Do goods from Singapore get a preferential duty rate in Australia?
Possibly. The LandedFees trade agreement database lists ASEAN-Australia-New Zealand FTA, Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership and Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership as covering both Singapore and Australia. A preferential rate applies only when the goods meet the agreement's rules of origin and you claim it with the required proof of origin.
