Importing from the United Kingdom to France: FAQ
How is import duty calculated for goods shipped from the United Kingdom to France?
Duty is the tariff rate for the product's HS code multiplied by the dutiable value. France assesses ad valorem duty on the CIF value: the price of the goods plus the cost of international freight and insurance to the point of entry. Import VAT (TVA) is then charged at 20% on CIF + duty. Enter your HS code or a product description above to get the exact rate for your goods.
What is the import VAT rate in France?
The standard rate used by the calculator is 20% (TVA), charged on CIF + duty.
Is there a de minimis threshold for imports into France?
Consignments up to EUR 150 no longer enter duty free. From 1 July 2026 until 1 July 2028 a temporary flat customs duty of EUR 3 applies per item (each distinct tariff classification) instead of the ad valorem rate. Import VAT is due from the first euro, either collected at sale under IOSS or charged at import.
Is shipping cost included in the dutiable value in France?
Yes. France uses CIF valuation, so international freight and insurance are added to the price of the goods before duty is calculated. Enter them in the shipping and insurance fields above.
Are there customs fees on top of duty in France?
The calculator applies no ad valorem entry fees or statutory surcharges for France. Broker, carrier and storage charges are not included.
What currency are duties paid in for France?
Duties and import taxes in France are assessed in EUR. The calculator above accepts an invoice in USD or EUR and reports the result in the invoice currency you choose.
Do goods from the United Kingdom get a preferential duty rate in France?
Possibly. The LandedFees trade agreement database lists EU-UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement as covering both the United Kingdom and France. A preferential rate applies only when the goods meet the agreement's rules of origin and you claim it with the required proof of origin.
