Removing or downgrading a member
Remove a teammate from your workspace, or downgrade them to viewer. Owners act on anyone; members can act on themselves.
Removing or downgrading a member
Off-boarding a teammate or a broker at the end of an engagement is a two-click flow. Owners can remove or downgrade any member. Non-owners can only act on their own row, using the owner-or-self exception in the RBAC helper.
Removal is permanent. Any calculations, entries, or findings the member owned transfer to the workspace and remain accessible to remaining members.
How to remove or downgrade a member
- Open /team.
- Find the member's row.
- Click the actions menu (the vertical dots) at the end of the row.
- Choose Downgrade to viewer to keep read access, or Remove to revoke access entirely.
- Confirm. The action is logged with a timestamp and the operator's user ID for audit purposes.
- If you downgraded, the member's next page load returns read-only surfaces. If you removed, the member's next page load redirects to their own dashboard or to signup.
Seat consumption: downgrading to viewer keeps consuming a seat. Removing frees a seat back to the pool immediately.
Self-serve exit
A member can remove themselves from a workspace without owner intervention. Open /team, find your own row, and choose Leave workspace. Owner-or-self allows this without holding owner rank.
Owners cannot leave. To depart the workspace, transfer the owner role to an admin first, then remove yourself as an admin.
What removal breaks
Nothing. Every calculation, entry, finding, or memo the member created stays in the workspace. Ownership transfers to the workspace itself. Nothing gets deleted just because the person left.
Integrations the member created (Slack webhook, Zapier webhook) stay in place under the workspace, not under the removed member. The admin who manages integrations continues to own them.
Frequently asked questions
Can I re-invite someone I removed
Yes. Send a new invite from the team page. The removed user re-signs into the workspace with the new role.
Does removing an admin also revoke their API keys
Yes. API keys are attached to the user; removing the user immediately revokes every key they created (LFQG-152 admin gate covers key management).
What if the departing member is the owner
Transfer the owner role first from the team page, then remove or step down. Owner-less workspaces are not permitted.
Is the removal logged
Yes. Every membership change lands in the audit log at /dashboard/audit-log with actor and target IDs.
