Creating a legal entity
Add a legal entity to your workspace with its country and tax ID. Entities keep filings, tax IDs, and audit history separated cleanly.
Creating a legal entity
An entity in LandedFees is a legal importer of record: a company name, a country of registration, and a tax ID (EIN for the US, EORI for the EU or UK, RFC for Mexico, BN for Canada). Entities keep filings and audit history separated cleanly so a US LLC's entries do not mix with a Mexican SA de CV's.
Every workspace starts with one entity, created implicitly at signup. Add more from /entities. Growth tier and above can hold multiple entities; Free and Pro are limited to one.
How to create an entity
- Open /entities.
- Click New entity.
- Enter the legal name exactly as it appears on your registration documents.
- Choose the country of registration.
- Enter the tax ID. Format is validated against the country: nine digits plus check for EIN, GB + twelve digits for UK EORI, and so on.
- Optional: enter a display name if you want a friendly label different from the legal name.
- Save. The entity appears in the /entities list.
Newly created entities have no filings attached. Upload entries or run calculations against the new entity from the entity switcher in the top navigation.
Attaching filings to an entity
When you upload a customs entry, the parser pulls the importer of record from the entry itself and offers to attach to that entity. If the importer on the entry does not match any of your entities, you get an option to create a new entity from the parsed importer details.
Attribution matters for the broker scorecard and for the finding memos: the memo carries the entity's legal name and tax ID.
Deleting an entity
Deleting an entity is permanent. Audits and calculations attached to the entity are archived, not deleted; ownership transfers to the workspace. Confirm before you delete.
Frequently asked questions
Can I hold entities in more than one country in the same workspace
Yes on Growth and above. Multi-entity is gated behind Growth tier (LFQG-153). Free and Pro tiers cap at one entity.
How does the entity's tax ID get used
The tax ID appears on finding memos, on PSC memos, and on any correction paperwork. It is validated on entry but never leaves your workspace.
Can two entities in the same workspace share a broker
Yes. Broker attribution is per entry, so one broker can serve multiple entities in the same workspace.
What about foreign subsidiaries with the same parent
Each legal importer of record is its own entity. If your Mexican subsidiary imports into Mexico while the US parent imports into the US, that is two entities.
